Single-Site Devices for Conjoined Glucose Sensing and Insulin Delivery
Performing glucose sensing and insulin infusion through a single skin insertion site has the potential to simplify and improve the treatment of diabetes by diminishing the size of the treatment device and reducing the number of treatment-related needle-sticks. Here, we report on the development and evaluation of a diabetes treatment device that combines glucose sensing and insulin delivery at a single skin insertion site. An important aspect of the design of the device is that it can be easily assembled from commercially available glucose sensing and insulin infusion technologies. The created device was successfully tested in diabetes patients during home-use.
